Steven Matthew Beard

Steven Beard is a postdoctoral scholar at the Center for Peace and Security Studies, University of California, San Diego. Steven recently obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado – Boulder and previously obtained a Master’s degree from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado. Steven’s research examines how various factors affect the strategic interactions between states that cause war and peace, often using formal models. Steven’s dissertation reexamines how wars end by incorporating military factors into states’ strategic bargaining decisions. Other projects examine how factors such as first-strike advantages and power shifts affect decisions of states to go to war.
