Profile
Syeda Shahbano Ijaz is interested in issues of political and economic development within institutionally fragile or conflict-affected states. Her research focuses on governance in the shadow of foreign aid and argues for a reverse-rentier effect of foreign aid which can increase political participation and engagement with local politicians. ShahBano is also interested in analyzing governance in unconventional spaces where the fiscal contract breaks down, and a future site of her research is camps for refugees and the internally displaced.
